This conference, organized on the occasion of Professor Susan Slyomovics' retirement, honors her meaningful contributions to the anthropology of the Middle East and North Africa; her impactful service at UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies and the departments of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and Anthropology; and her global record in shaping scholarly communities and advocating for social justice and human rights in the Middle East, North Africa, and closer to home.
